Touch screen is easier for scrolling through my daily newspaper, and for shutting down the machine. Otherwise, I'm a mousy person.
My experience also. I very seldom use the "metro" mode, but the touch screen is also great for reading a wiring diagram.
I went from Vista to Windows 8.1, and had to replace 2 very old applications (Quicken and can't remember the other one) and also went through a very long learning curve. I love the speed of the new Lenova laptop. There are a few things that I felt Microsoft changed just for the sake of changing them, but I've adapted. I would not go back to Vista now.
