It is not an issue of not liking or fearing change. I build my own computers and started programming when there were mainframes. I have seen a lot of change. When I started there were no monitors and "software" was a stack of punch cards. That advanced to a paper punch tape.
Win 8 was designed to appeal to children who like smartphones with apps - it was to be the universal OS - pc to tablet to phone. They never stopped to think that businesses did not want a toy on the desk of their employees. And businesses have not adopted Win 8 and stay with Win 7 and some major companies use and will continue to use XP.
Change is wonderful when it is for the better, when it shows progress. Win 8 (8.1) does not show progress. But if you like it use it. And those who don't won't unless they are forced to with no alternatives (Linux is not an alternative for most. It has no support from the large software developers especially for business. (But it has a nice base of open source software.) And for the average Joe and Jane is too tech heavy.)
