Just curious as to what a "100% virtual environment" is? Does that mean you have no local servers or desktops?
The virtual environment is like running the computer in a cloud but you own the cloud. At our company I have five relatively large servers that house this cloud and the users connect to them with any device they desire (totally hardware independent) from anywhere they have an Internet connection. They then have a Windows XP, 7, or 8 desktop that displays on their device. Whatever I have setup for them. It is interesting to see a Windows 7 desktop with Office 2010 running on an old original iPad. I started this project four years ago so that I had some control of my environment. I couldn't imagine replacing 200 Windows XP computers and then doing it again in another five years. As it is these 200 computers can run a client program that can fully access a Windows 7 or 8 desktop. My point in this and my original post is that if you aren't proactive you are constantly reactive, and when you wait until the last minute to upgrade technology you find your options are greatly diminished. Fortunately or unfortunately, technology is constantly changing and the speed at which it changes is accelerating. You can either adapt and move forward or stay on the old stuff until it dies. Either way you can't expect manufacturers to support the old stuff forever.
