There are several options. IF you have a I/R remote device that can not see your I/R remote control you just get an IR Remote Extender

These work one of two ways..
One: Convert I/R signals from remote to RF (Radio Frequency) transmissions, and then convert back at the "Device" end.
Two: Send it over the Coax. (I like this method better but it is not always practical)
you place the I/R Receier module where it can see your remote.. Place the Transmitter or I/r Blaster (Depending on the model) where the Deice can see it.
Some of these can operate several different I/R remote devices (mine does two or 4, some do up to 8 or 16) so long as they all have different remotes.
Plus, in my case, i can operate my DVR's via LAN but.. Well..they do not make mine any more.
