Directv and maybe Dish uses spot beam coverage for the local channels. If you get to far away from your home area you loose the locals. They allow two service location switches per year for snowbirders. They also have Distance Network Services where you can get the major channels from either NY or LA. This requires filing RV registration documents with them and take up to 6 weeks to set up the first time.
If you are near metro areas then HDTV off the air for locals is pretty good.
