The one I have in the RV is an older one from Oregon Scientific (it was small). It lives on the dash, I power it from a cigarette lighter adapter, it does NOT use SAME programming (so it will alert to any warning on that channel). Stays on 24/7 when we travel. When we stop for the night (or if I am worried about weather conditions any time during the day...) I simply find which of the 7 or 8 channels (can't recall) has the best reception and set it to that. I use the OnGuard app on my Android Smartphone as a backup - it alerts based on my position (by county). Downfall is if I'm in county A, and there is something nearby in County B, app won't alert until they issue watches/warnings for the county I am in. Also won't work if you are out of data range... plus is I may be away from the rig but still have the phone with me! I can say OnGuard responds very quickly - not much lag time from a NOAA warning over the radio to an alert on the phone - less than a minute. Knowledge can be a good thing! ST
