#1 problem is confusion
the term Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) is assumed by the general populace to be much broader and longer range than it is, many confuse it with cellular and call cell data wi-fi
your choices for mobile data ( that you carry with you )
are satellite
or cellular service
cellular can be either a dedicated wifi router AKA hotspot/access point
or a cell phone with the same capability
there is NO beamed wi-fi portable device service
where you buy WI-FI direct (not cellular based) service that works anywhere you are
there is a service called WiMax, which is wifi of a sort
it is done on a local basis and provides a 4g broadband service
it is usually bundled with a hotspot device that also uses 3g cellular and uses "SPRINT" ? cellular connection for the 3g part
Sprint bought Wimax a few years ago to augment their service capabilities
