He's not using a modem to conenct to the internet, he's using WiFI.
WiFi and a "modem" are two completely different and unrelated methods of connecting to the interwebz
i=I use a WiFI antenna plugged in to the USB port on my laptop. I've been using if since about 2010. Works flaweless. It becomes the new WIFI antenna, and I turn off the WIFI system in the laptop.
