WiFi Repeater

An earlier thread mentioned this wifi repeater Clicky. There were DIY versions but I'm not that smart so I bought this one.

VERY happy with it. Very easy setup. Great customer support (I had one question and they responded very quick). Rock solid signal. I attached the WiFi antenna to the Winegard crankup.

Why I got this: (Reason 1) improve the wifi signal from the CG. (Reason 2) distribute that signal (or the one from my hot spot) to the myriad other wifi enabled devices with only one log in. Several times now, CG's give a different password to each device. They never charge but it is a hassle keeping up with them since we have 2 laptops; 2 tablets; 2 smart phones. With this device all of these log into the repeater using the same password and the repeater logs in to the CG using the provided password. (Reason 3) I didn't know about the Pet Temp sensor mentioned in my other thread but it works great with this. (Reason 4) I like gadgets.

Be glad to answer any questions.
  • Belgique....I have the exact same system...Jefatech....with antenna mounted on TV antenna
It has worked very well and I agree the tech help is excellent when needed
    Very happy

  • I am in the process of putting a titanium bullet with a 15 DB Omni Antenna on the roof, and reuse an old Netgear WNDR 3300 router. The advantage of this setup is the netgear router has a 2.4 and 5.8 radio, and unlike most repeaters can repeat the wifi on a different channel then the incoming data. Normally you loose 3/4 of the bandwidth repeating the data on the same channel, with this type of setup there is no loss from that, and it is on both the 2.4 and 5.8 ghz. The Iphone 5 (and later) can connect to the 5.8 which I have NEVER seen used in a rv park (mostly due to short range and very poor penetration of structures aka rv's). Inside and outside there is no issues repeating my home wifi from 2.4 to 5.8. If you are slightly technical, DDWRT gives you MANY options of customizing your router.

This is the setup I have and it works really well. The interface is a breeze to use and the non-techie will have no problems. I attach and remove my antennae to/from my ladder using springs clips that I pop riveted to the aluminum base. These are "broom handle" spring type Broom handle clip.
  • I got this unit.... Awesome.... It was costly, but at 1w or 1000mw...

I grabbed a signal at 2.5 miles away.... In the city.

    Colicky doo-da

My rv is about 1000yrd from my home. I can grab my network... At 10mb up/down.
  • I know nothing specifically about the JefaTech. Just commenting on repeaters in general.
  • I use a PepWave Surf "On The Go" combination WiFi repeater and router that also accepts a cell data modem. Connected to an external WiFi antenna, the range is pretty impressive. Even using a direct connected inside 9dB antenna gives surprisingly good results.

Another advantage of using a router/repeater is that you can place your own devices on a separate sub-network, so not part of the general park network. Provides some extra security, so your neighbors can't possibly snoop around in your networked devices.

Plus, I doubt the CG WiFi is very fast anyway? So you're not likely to experience much of a drop in your internet speed, if any, due to using a repeater.
It used to run a garden variety version of DD-WRT, but about 2 years ago they issued a dumbed down version with a different hood and you don't have any options to play subnet games.
