They do help, but they only amplify the signal. If your out in the sticks where there is no signal then there is nothing to amplify. The other issue is only one device can be used with each "sleek", so we ended up getting a upgraded booster system so the DW and I (along with our MIFI) could all benefit as well as our occasional visitors.
The Sleek, of course, can't help you when the cellular network stalls or goes down completely. We're currently in a location with somewhat marginal Verizon 4G signal. The sleek helps our phone, acting as our hotspot, to maintain a connection but sometimes the data signal goes to zero throughput even though the phone continues to think it is connected. After a few minutes things return to normal but during the "outage" all the amplification in the world is to no avail. - crcrExplorer

Not necessarily so -- I use the Wilson Sleek for my Android phone, then I tether my laptop wirelessly to the phone, using it basically as a router. We can also tether more than one computer, and can surf the net on the phone at the same time. My phone is stock, not rooted. And I'm not paying for the hotspot feature. This is easy to do. - gajd33ExplorerThey do help, but they only amplify the signal. If your out in the sticks where there is no signal then there is nothing to amplify. The sleek you need depends on your phone carrier. This article has a table which explains which boosters go with witch each carrier in the US. - DakzukiExplorerI have a Wilson cradle booster I use with my iPhone (as hot spot). I have the little stubby antenna with suction mount/ground plane and a Wilson Trucker antenna. I have been known to duct tape the big antenna to a flag pole and have it 20 feet in the air.
I tried my cradle with a Verizon Mifi and it worked great with it too. Definite signal gains. - crcrExplorerYes, have the Wilson Sleek, on Verizon. It helps a lot, but it will heop you even more if you upgrade to the better antenna, which has a much higher gain. The upgraded antenna is $20. I highly recommend the better antenna over that stubbie antenna that comes with the Sleek. It's not the added length that helps so much, it's the much higher gain -- I spoke to a tech guy at Wilson Electronics about it. With that, I really get major boost. I also have an extend a pole and have the antenna on top of it, a good 2 or 3 feet above the top of our TT. I don't leave home without it.
I also use it when staying in tall hotels in cities -- sometimes you get in a skyscraper canyon and reception is limited. - sdianel_-acct_cExplorerYep. Good results.
- jcpainterExplorerI've used the Sleek for several years. First the Verizon 3G model, then the 4G model. Both with a good external antenna.
At first I was rather disappointed, as it didn't seem to make a lot of difference. In fact, if I did a speed test, I got better speeds without the sleek than with it. I had more bars with the Sleek, but not better data speeds.
THEN . . . . we traveled to the a KOA campground just outside the Badlands, SD, where there was ZERO cell service. I put the phone into the Sleek, and VIOLA 2-3 bars. I could use my bluetooth or speaker phone to talk. Same results with the Jetpack MiFi; I didn't get fantastic signal, but better than the campground WiFi.
I'm a believer now!
Hope this is helpful. - hersheyExplorerHeres a thread on exactly your query that is getting some positive response. Click here.
- jcpainterExplorerDo you mean the Wilson Sleek?
