The risk of getting infected/hacked is too great.
Some significant percentage of "stuff" in that update package is security related.
If you've been running Microsoft stuff, you know this is nothing new. Huge patches have been going on since Windows 95.
I have no real issues with MS wanting to update things. The issue is what they want to update. I like to update my hardware myself, not have MS decide that my video drivers need updating, and doing it without consulting me. Taking away the option of me deciding if I want to update puts me too much in the Apple camp where you don't have much of a voice in anything.
