Just last in line, and as a professional nerd - I know the auto-update is annoying and problematic.
But there's no way I'd disable it.
The risk of getting infected/hacked is too great.
Some significant percentage of "stuff" in that update package is security related.
If you've been running Microsoft stuff, you know this is nothing new. Huge patches have been going on since Windows 95.
