Just last in line, and as a professional nerd - I know the auto-update is annoying and problematic.
But there's no way I'd disable it.
The risk of getting infected/hacked is too great.
Some significant percentage of "stuff" in that update package is security related.
If you've been running Microsoft stuff, you know this is nothing new. Huge patches have been going on since Windows 95.
I have no real issues with MS wanting to update things. The issue is what they want to update. I like to update my hardware myself, not have MS decide that my video drivers need updating, and doing it without consulting me. Taking away the option of me deciding if I want to update puts me too much in the Apple camp where you don't have much of a voice in anything.
MS wants you to update your hardware drivers because many of the manufacturers are behind on writing updates for their products to run really well with Win10.
This was true of my Wireless adapter and some other minor things. MS has been taking a lot of flak over the fact that WIN10 doesnt work on some peoples computers, when in fact it is the secondary parts manufacturers like Hard drives, wireless adapters and other hardware that the manufacturers are way behind in writing drivers for. MS have written drivers themselves for many of the most common.
So to head off some of that criticism they are unfairly taking I think they are trying to do automatic updates so people will have fewer issues.
I normally only let my computer notify me of updates and then I decid which to update. But after an hour long discussion with a MS tech over this problem I see it from their side too. I have for the time being allowed my computer to update itself. But once this problem is over I will go back to my "Self control" of updates.
