OK - agree that windows 8 is not a good OS. Why not just get a copy of Windows 7? It is not much different than XP. Yes - you cannot buy it in the stores on a new PC but you could either use your current box - which may not be powerful enough - CPU, memory, etc. I would reccommend having one custom built which saves you from all the preloaded******that comes on store-bought machines. Firefox runs fine on W7.
I like W8 just fine, but do I want to endure ALL, and I mean ALL, the OS maintenance issues and lesser accessibility of the 'new look' just so I can keep on running Firefox on a machine? No.
It is like having a 1971 Schwinn 3 speed you got in high school and still use because it rides fine and makes you feel good to keep it up. (Unfortunately, mine was stolen 3 years ago.) It is also like keeping your old BIG screen analog TV to watch analog cable instead of buying an equivalent height LED flatscreen (I figure it would need to be a 42" model). They will both deliver the same 70 (mostly junk) channels with pretty much the same analog signal quality (I've even heard the old tube sets are often better than LED on analog cable).
I am gonna see if Puppy 5.6 runs better in VB.
