After reading the web site you posted I went to my camera and found a setting in the menu function that says 1920x1080(shoots full HD movies) is this what you are describing? The other options are 1280x720 and 640x480. I also found aspect ratios functions of 16:9,3:2,4:3,1:1 and 4:5. So somehow I must have set the camera to 1:1.
Try setting the camera at M3 Normal or M3 Fine.
THIS video will give you the gist of how to set your camera
My camera does not have M3, but I see the L mode M1,M2 and S. I set it to the L which says 9M 4000x2280 which is higher than M1, M2 or S. Also set it to aspect ratio of 16:9 and jpeg. Should this now give me full size pictures with the highest quality?
Yup, that will do it. Take some pics now and you will see. Also, get yourself a photo editing program that you can use to resize the pics as needed. FastStone Image Viewer mentioned earlier is easy to use. IF you want to email a pic you will want to resize your 4000x2280 to 1024x768 or say 800x600. For viewing, printing the 4000x2280 will be terrific.
