windows 10 and photo viewing

I bought a HP Pavilion with windows 10 in January. I have a Cannon S50 camera. I can download the photos into my computer but cannot view them in full size. I did not have this problem with my old Compaq with Vista. Also when I downloaded some pictures that mt daughter gave me with a disc the photos were even smaller 2 x 2 ins. I called HP but they could not help me. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried the procedure that Sherlock posted, but still do not get a full size picture. If I click the rectangular button between the two arrows it will expand to about 8x8 ins but not full screen.
  • If you upgraded from Win 7 or Win 8, switching from the Windows 10 Photo app to Windows Photo Viewer is as easy as changing the default app to Windows Photo Viewer as detailed by sherlock62 above. However, if you clean installed Windows 10 or bought your computer new with Windows 10, it's not so easy and requires a registry change to do it.

Here's an article with the details: How to get Windows Photo Viewer back in Windows 10
  • Go to the Windows 10 folder that contains the pictures you wish to view. Right mouse click on any pic file in that folder and then click on OPEN WITH and then click on WINDOWS PHOTO VIEWER. Windows Photo Viewer is decent. While some of the old pic viewers mentioned by others here are aok, you really will do just fine with Windows Photo Viewer. (you can also use "Photos" that is listed as a viewer

You can easily make Windows 10, Windows Photo Viewer OR Photos, your default viewer. Once you make it your default viewer you can click on any pic and it will open in Windows Pho Viewer. Set Windows Photo Viewer as your Default Image Viewer

You can now right-click a type of image file — for example, a .png, .jpg, .gif, or .bmp file — point to “Open with,” and select “Choose another app.”

Click the “More apps” option, select Windows Photo Viewer in the list, activate the “Always use this app to open .___ files” checkbox, and click OK.

Windows Photo Viewer will now be the default image viewer for that type of image file. You’ll need to repeat this process for each type of image file you want to open with it. In other words, whenever you open an image that opens in the Photos app, just close the Photos app and use the “Open with” menu to associate that file type with Windows Photo Viewer. You should only have to do this a few times.

    .
  • I have been using Faststone Image Viewer for years. Click on an image and it opens full screen. Move cursor to left, right, top or bottom of screen to see menus.

Best of all - it's a free download.

I have two or three different PHOTO VIEWER on Windows... If you mouse click on a photo it usually tells you what program you can use to view it with. It also depends on how big the photo is saved on your cannon as well... Almost sounds like things are stored in a small thumbnail type pixel mode. I need something like 400x600 pixels at a minimum... I like to get the pictures as big as they can be as you can always go down in size but you cannot go up is size if they are too small pixel size to start out with...

What viewer is W10 defaulting to? I have at least 3 choices on mine. I've never had a problem with Paint, although "fullsize" is bigger than the monitor itself.

Sometimes that's true, and sometimes you just need to look around in Windows.
