Nope not "paranoid" at all, just a lot more REALISTIC perspective from a person that does MUCH more than simply look at Email, Facebook, twitter or randomly surf for stupid pictures and or stupid news.
At work, I am in charge of setting up highly integrated PCs in embedded high tech devices. A PC that decides to update, reboot or update then quit working AT THE WRONG TIME could have potential consequences..
At home, I highly customize my PCs with software and hardware that I have bought over the years.. All of the software, there is NO "direct fit replacement".. Even a lot of the older hardware I have, there isn't a lot out there to FULLY REPLACE it.
With MS at the helm they have to SOLE power to tell you that you NEED to replace the PC when ever they feel like it..
The path IS clear in what MS is wanting to do, as of right now, MS and Intel ARE moving to the UEFI "secure boot" platform as the FUTURE.
What this means is eventually, all Intel chipsets will only have UEFI secure boot option, no "legacy" boot option will be available..
It IS getting hard now days to find new system boards that have legacy boot option.
Win10 at this time supports UEFI AND LEGACY BOOT, down the road it WILL be ONLY UEFI.
Additionally, MS has made it extremely clear that they ARE no longer supporting a lot of older legacy PC hardware going forward. Older Processors and chipsets support WILL be eventually REMOVED from Win10..
What does that mean?
Simple, once MS stops supporting legacy boot (non UEFI), ALL NON UEFI system boards most likely no longer be able to boot to Win10 (remember, MS is no longer planning to release any other "version" but to "refresh" your PC with Creator Updates)..
I can tell you this, UEFI secure boot is buggy and has created a lot of hassles for companies like mine that build products with Embeded PCs..
Then apparently, the future is now. My five year old laptop uses UEFI.
For 95+ percent of users, the stuff you're worried about is irrelevant.
