Windows 10 icon

Thanks very much to the OP for NOT "getting over it"! I somehow mistakenly agreed to allow it to download, at Windows will, when I likely will not install it at all and even if I did I would want it to be at MY WILL and not Microsoft's.

Of all the things you could bellyache about, it has to be a little ole icon ??
I never even noticed it till you all started carry'n on about it. Its just sitting there w/ the rest of the little icons,....can stay there forever for all I care,.....get over it !

It appears on my and DW's PC on the same day. I have mine set to download ASAP. I'll get used to the final version (I've been running development releases for months) before changing hers.

a lot of articles are out there trying to second-guess MS's definition of free. it appears they are saying free until your device's lifetime is reached. any vagueness would be w/r physically broken hardware vs too outdated to handle further W10 updates.

i am running W8.1 on a 6 month old $230 toshiba C55-B from Bb. it is a much easier to live with rig than my old XP desktop and laptop, both of which physically died.

i am looking forward to W10, and scheduled the update as soon as i saw the icon.

i sense a very different tone from MS with this icon as compared to the malicious red-X threatening pop-up i got on my XP machines.

I just uninstalled KB3035583 to remove the update icon, and hid it so it won't come back. On my computer, it was installed on 5/19. On DW's computer, it was installed on 5/20.

Thanks for starting this topic. Not only did I see the icon and wonder what it was, when I clicked on the icon I selected the "Get Win 10" (I assume) option assuming it would take me to an informational page. It did do that but it also set my computer to receive the update when it becomes available the end of July, at their convenience and using up 3GB of my cellular data. There is no option to get rid of it once it's there. Un-installing the above mention update got rid of the update option as well as the taskbar icon.

******Please just read this part and don't steal this thread by responding, but the main reason I see for not installing W10 is that you cannot opt out of future updates or when they are installed which would eat up my cellular data when I prefer to wait until WiFi is available.******

Rumor has it that Windows 10 will be a major improvement over 8 and 8.1 (have not heard of compairsons to 7, vista and xp)

Fact you can verify on the Microsoft web sites is that Windows 10 will be free.

For the time being,, Ignore the thing if you do not want it.

I have a beta upgrade here and am debating running it.

I just uninstalled the update, hid it on microsoft updates, and went to the windows/system 32/folder and checked for GWX folder. It is gone. If yours isn't, you can delete it. I also changed my status from automatically update to ask me before downloading any updates.
