Windows 10 icon

I now have a small "windows" icon on my task bar telling me to reserve my copy of win 10. Does anyone know how to get rid of the damn icon short of accepting their download of the program? It is annoying to have that on there when you can't remove it.
  • Right click in the Taskbar.
    Click "Properties"
Click "Customize" from the Notification Area portion of the dialogue box
    Follow thestoloffs's instructions.

I noticed the ICON on my WIN 8 machine when it first showed up a couple days ago. Then I went and turned on my WIN 7 laptop which had been off-line for about a week and watched it download and install the KB3035583 Windows update file but it never put the icom on the WIn 7 taskbar. My Windows 7 is a HOME PREMIUM version. I am wondering now where can I register this for my free upgrade to WIN 10.

Go to Control Panel/Notification Area Icons. Find the Windows box icon (listed under the program name GWX - Get Windows 10), and set it to either "Only show notifications" or "Hide icon and notifications".
    For what version of Windows?

I've searched high & low on my Win 7 and can't find a way to remove the icon. Sometimes this kind of thing seems more like an invasion than a help. If I wanted Win 10 I know where to find it, they don't need to take over my machine to push it in. (small rant, but I feel better now :) )

Do what thestoloffs said. Make sure the checkbox at the bottom that says "always show notifications" is unchecked and then click on the dropdown menu for the win 10 GWX and set it to not show the icon.
In my Win 7 there is NO "Notifications Area Icons" to select. I've looked through all of my choices in the Control Panel .... nothing there. Also been to Widows Update and nothing there either. I found a selection to stop notifying me of new Windows Software, but nothing that removes the Windows 10 icon from the taskbar. I can ignore it, but would much rather have it gone.
