I wish I did not have to say this but... 
Common.. Windows back in the original days there was "Backwards Compatibility" so the if you updated the old programs still worked.. But starting with either 7 or 8 (Forget which) they started dropping this requirement.
Sometimes you can hack the program's settings and change the compability settings (Mostly Firefox Aps on that and frankly I forget how to do it).
Sometimes you can run the program in "Compability Mode" and that will work.
You need to investigate Compability mode.
But that's one of the thigns I do not like about Windows. Sadly I don't have a choice as there is no Linux version of some of the stuff I use.
