Windows updates ???

Anybody else getting these massive Windows updates?
Seems like every time I boot up Win 7 I get a pile of updates.
Not so much on my laptop running 8.1 but still a lot.
  • I can understand why it might be annoying to someone with a limited data plan but other than that it doesn't bother me.

I have all my personal machines as well as my test machines for work set to auto update and that works for me without issue.
  • Yeah, I don't understand the issue either. There were some updates today, but before that it had been a week or two since the last updates.

I don't have mine set to auto update because there are updates, like driver updates for my video card, that I install separately.

you bet and I don't see how or why this is annoying. if set to full automatic (bad idea, imo) it all occurs in the background. you can keep working and only need to re-boot at some point after the updates are downloaded and applied. there is no need to re-boot immediately...just do it when convenient. if you have windows set to notify you of updates you can download and apply them when you're not using the pc.

I even got a MS UPDATE on my older XP-PRO computer not too long ago. Don't know where that came from... Also don't know if that was a SYSTEM update or maybe one of the MS Programs I have on that machine - MS OFFICE 2007 maybe...

They keep coming on my WIN 7 setup... I have auto updates set with it...

I am running FIREFOX here with three or so "FREE" anti-virus and anti-malware programs I usually run about every two-three days... WIN 7 runs fast all the time doing this... Even my older M90 XP-PRO purks right along on my COMMs HAM/EMERGENCY RADIO setups.
  • I would suggest turning off automatic updates and manually checking for updates every few weeks or so when you have the time and a fast Internet connection available.
  • Yep, it's terribly annoying.

I find myself using the Chromebook more and more. Seriously thinking about buying a Chromebox to run my two HP monitors. I can VPN to my works virtual Win 7 desktop via Citrix Receiver. I haven't found anything I can't do with the chrome OS... No crashes, no annoying updates, and everything simply works.

    Thanks!
