if it's the interface that you don't like there is a third-party overlay that makes it look and act like traditional windows. google search...make win8 look and act like win7. there are dozens of viable tools and hints on how to do this. some examples:

what does the free upgrade to 8.1 do? I thought it made the interface more 7ish? I did get one of these add ons, I think stardock, that added the start button. When I had an issue with 8 and contacted MS the tech noticed it. :)
I use 8 and have gotten to like it, since I didn't whine and go back to PC-DOS like some here have but have XP on one machine since that is the only OS that will run some of my old games.
