Your crank-up "Batwing" antenna will give you the most range available. The Sensar (it's real name) can reach out in the 50-60 mile range. The amplified Razar would go somewhere closer to 25-30 miles.
It's unusual to have to replace the head itself unless it has been damaged. If it has painted white "wings" (not alum. colored) and it's not damaged, let me know and you can do a bit of trouble-shooting if you are interested.
