IIRC, the ballast resistor was only for points type ignition and was not needed after the change to electronic ignition. I may be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.
Regarding the oil, make sure to run oil for flat tappet lifters (I doubt it has roller lifters). The EPA forced the removal of zinc/phosphorus additives to reduce emissions. Those are needed for camshaft/lifter lubrication (I had to rebuilt older engine because I used the newer oils and the camshaft went flat on a couple lobes).
