2 cats 1 golden retriever & litter box

We just purchased a new 2015 Cedar Creek Hathaway 38RD which has all of the bells and whistles but not much open floor space so where do I put the litter box (There is a central vac under the first step so it can't go there) and the food dishes so the dog doesn't get fat off of cat food. There is carpet under the table so do not want to put litter box there and carpet in living room and bedroom. I'm stuck. We're brand new to this so our first trip will be loading up the cats and the dog and heading down to FLorida for the winter. Excited but nervous about the pets travelling.
  • OK I understand about the litter box but where do the 2 cats ride. Had planned to allow them to stay in the 5th wheel with the dog in the back seat of the truck. Driving from Washington, DC area so how do we keep them warm until we get farther south.
  • We actually have a cat blanket that we make into a round like a doughnut for the cat to curl in and she stayed warm, she rode with us in the C on the dashboard on the passengers side or curled on the bed, you might want to get harnesses for the cats also, they do get scared and want to get out and the leash helps control them.

To lessen the anxiety of the cat our niece gave my wife a small bottle of an oil that is lavender and that really helps calm the animal until they get used to the motion, after a few miles they are settled and go to sleep, try to acquaint the cats to the 5th by sleeping in it a couple of nights before the trip, that way you will not have a couple of raving lunatics trying to get out any which way they can, be careful with open windows their claws are great at tearing the mosquito screens, and there will be plenty of air with the windows closed.

One drop of lavender oil on the head calms them down, rub it on the head and neck and if possible the bottom of the paws.

i would never subject a pet to ride in the trailer. try riding in it yourself, while it's moving.
your cats will be so stressed, they'll never want to go again.
  • we dont take our cat camping with us, but we have a PCS move coming up soon and we will be in the camper for an extended time. i decided to put a cat door between the inside of the camper and the under bed storage. hopefully that will keep the box contained. i also built a screen that snaps in place of the compartment door opening. it will let the compartment vent when we're parked and our cat can enjoy the opening.

still working with my little furball to get her comfy with the door. she'll get it.
