As other folks have said, it may not be needed all the time but I have been to a campgrounds where it had a very steep drive coming out that I put it in 4 wheel low and let it crawl out. I live in Ohio and do drive the truck o0ther than just pulling the trailer and wouldn't be without it. Yes it might cut the weight rating a little but I feel it is worth it. I know when I do get another one it will be a 4x4 and crew cab but that is just my preference. You need to take the info and decide what your preference is and go from there. Some of the new eco boost motors in the 1/2 tons have a good torque rating and horsepower. Just make sure it is spec'ed with the tow package and it fits your situation.
