We have used 4 wheel drive twice this year to get out of camping spots - once on a sloped site after rain and once to deal with sand. 4x4 is great.
Also the GM trucks have an Autotrac feature that brings in front drive when rears start to spin. It is very useful driving on snowy slippery roads.
