I'm driving my 1st 4x4. I've had it a year now, and have needed it once. I've used it 6-8 times.
A few thoughts, first, it has value in the used market regardless of whether or not it is useful to you. It appears that all of the money is returned when you sell.
Second, it has reduced my stress level many times that I didn't end up using it. So for me, it was worth it even if not needed. There have been several BLM roads and FS roads that we've enjoyed exploring. I would have probably turned around a few times if I hadn't had the safety net.
