I wouldn't want to, but many many people do it. If you have never visited us before, one major feature that will jump at you is lack of public transportation systems.
Most major cities will have comprehensive systems but most smaller one are rudimentary or non existant.
Rental cars are readily available and with planning you will be able to fill your transportation needs.
