AC leak

We have finally pulled the trigger and bought a 2000 f350 diesel dually and have been looking for a fifth wheel. We saw one the other day (Private seller) and it seemed like it has the floor plan to meet our needs. It is a 2010 Forest River Cedar Creek Cottage. It has been kept meticulously clean, original owner. When they showed us the rig it was already hooked up with slides out and ac running. There was a towel on the floor and he told us it was because the rig was not level, and (it obviously wasn't) that was the reason for the slow drip. My question is if that seems like a reasonable cause for the leak. Thanks for any feedback you can give.
  • Unless it was way out of level, no, I dont buy it.
It sounds more like the gasket at the base of the AC is bad or the drains in the bottom of the unit are clogged.
I would not buy unless he can prove it works without leaking.
Also, if he had the fridge on and it was that much out of level, it's probably questionable as well.
  • If it is dripping from the roof AC unit, often times the AC unit just need to be tightened up it self. That can be done by taking the control knobs off, then the plastic housing on the ceiling. There are 4 bolts that need snugging up. They compress the AC unit to the 3/4" thick gasket between the AC and roof.
    About 10 minutes is all.
  • If your really thinking about it pull the inside plastic Cobra was talking about. If wood dry rotted or wet RUN

There are several reasons an A/C may drip.

One in very humid weather the cold air coming out the outlets meats the warm moist air around them and condensation happens. And Drip Drip Drip

Two There is a gasket between the A/C and the roof, may need attention or replacement (Very simple job)

Three: I have found when the intake filters get dirty the blower will SUCK water out of the drip tray and eventually it drips drips drips. NOTE when you turn the blower off .. NIAGRA FALLS

    Icing on the evaporator coils

Dirt in the normal water path

    And yes Out of level.

the problem one;... Cracked drip tray. heard of one, never seen one.
  • If leveling would prevent the leak why didn't the seller do so? Sounds fishy to me.
  • We have had to snug down our AC unit. It loosens over time from road vibration. We do it as a matter of maintenance instead of waiting for it to drip, but many people do not know about this. Snug it down - don't overtighten it.
  • Thank you all for your responses. Looking forward to the journey knowing there will be many bumps along the way.
