When backing in, in the dark, I always place a couple lite flashlights on both sides of the spot I am backing into. In fact I try to keep some extra small LED blue torch type lights handy and mark each side of the front of the spot too. Started doing this when I hauled fuel and had to back into spots at night where there was little or no lighting. If we ran over our flashlights, it was a chargeable accident! Like these:
