Hello all,
I just recently purchased my first TT, now I'm buying the all the necessities ( power cords, sewer, water hoses etc.) I've been comparing prices online, but I'm not sure what's a good quality name brand or not. Is the saying you get what you pay for necessarily true when it comes to these basic items?
Power cords: I have several, Most are common "Black Rubber" but the one I like best has a bright plastic cover (orange in my case but they came in a rainbow of colors) these are easier to wrangle when cold. I got mine at the dealer.. IF there is any chance you will be camping below 40(F) Id get cords rated for cold weather.. One extension at least. I have needed more than that just one time.
Water hoses 10 and 20 foot should do it one of each in WHITE plus another for rinse water.. plus one long hose for washing the rig, This latter one (in my case) is a "pocket Hose" one of those compact expanding jobs you see on TV. It replaced an older flat hose and reel.
Sewer hoses: Some options here.
I have a portable Macerator for those cases when I need it either due to elevation or distance.. I have 50 feet of BLACK rubber hose (3/4") that hooks to it's output,, You can likely figure out why I bought BLACK for that but if you can not... Black hose = Black Water.. I have a 3 waste tanks on this house, black And 2 gray.. I have a 25 foot GRAY garden hose.. You guessed that one by now Im' sure.
For 3" stinky slinkeys I have an assortement... I just replaced my RinoFlex (Which by the way is a good choce) With a Tethford "Smart Hose" I will do a full review on it next year but for now I can tell you the "Look and feel" of this hose is impressive.. The only issue I have had so far is this,, It uses cam-lock ends so the adapter from teh hose to the RV and from the hose to the hole in the ground need to be "locked" on the hose, not just screwed on as with the Rino.. This I like but putting them on THE FIRST TIME, was .. Not easy, and I'm a big guy and fairly strong... (I can pick up a 22.5" wheel, and have). Got 'em on though with a bit of help from the channel lock pliars.
Second time putting the ends on (I only remove the "Far" end (Outlet or hole in the ground)
The lock to the 5" clear extension I use at the motor home is different as well. A very positive lock and a very good seal.
My feeling is, a year from now when I do a full review, it will be very positive. It does take up more room in the storage tube than teh Rinoflex did.
I ahve a couple of extension hoses as well should it not be long enough, one is the 10' er that came with the RV (Cheap piece of ... Well you know,, ,but strangly it has outlasted 2 Rinoflex and one other hose) one Heavy Duty (Red or Red-orange) one from CW (10') and a 20 foot CamCo easy store (Hose comes in a storage tube)
The Smart hose ends will NOT fit in bumper.. They do fit in the fence post I store them in.
