We have a steep drive at the lake and an F-350 with limited slip diff (LSD). Getting up the drive during winter with icy conditions is not fun, but with LSD, I often times need only flip the switch for LSD and not bother to use 4WD. Works for us.

Never seen a limited slip with a switch.
He probably has a locking rear like mine. Pull the switch and you have a solid axle.
Switchable limited slips, such as ARB AirLockers, and also the lockers standard on Rubicon models, are VERY common in the Jeep world.
My old TJ Wrangler, in 2wd, I may as well be driving a prius for all the traction it gives me.
In 4wd it is welded to the road.
My old Camaro, before I put in a limited slip, would just smoke one tire for as long as I dared keep my foot in it. With a limited slip, it hooks up and goes, eventually.
You want either or both of a limited slip and 4wd.
I personally would never own or drive a 2wd pickup or SUV, not ever.
Yesterday, I moved my motorhome for the first time this year. She had sunk an inch or two into the gravel, and traction was kinda limited. and then there was this giant tree 18" behind the rear cap. And I had to rock it out, with the traction control light lit.
Get whatever traction aids are on the option list. You'll never regret it.
