I would be thinking long term, you might like a tent trailer some people really do but the majority of tent trailer owners I have talked with just get tired of having to raise and lower the top any time they want to do something or need something in the trailer. They also end up not liking the fact that they are towing the house behind them but have limited access to it while on the road. When I'm towing my trailer the family uses the bathroom in the trailer when we stop as well as raid the fridge and cupboards for junk food not to mention the rest stop lunch breaks.
If you at least set yourself up with a decent tow rig to start with you will have options in a year or two if you decide that the tent trailer really isn't doing it for you without looking at starting all over with another tow rig as well as trailer. If the tent trailer becomes your thing well you won't have a problem towing it anywhere you want.
As for cargo I would rather have a pickup box to haul the wood, barbecue and propane or fuel cans in then an enclosed SUV. There are all sorts of options out there to cover your bed from soft roll top covers to fiberglass toppers so I'm sure you will find one that fits your style.
