While I don't necessarily think "bigger is better" I do believe in the saying "buy your second RV first". I didn't, and here I am with a 2yr old TT going up for sale so I can get a fifth wheel.... As for tow vehicle get a real truck in a crew cab and don't look back. At least that way when you are tired of your pop up in a couple years you won't have to get a new truck to tow that TT you'll be buying.
