Update: This morning I got a phone call from the lady at the dealer who deals with the DMV registrations. She states that they got confirmation from DMV that the MSO was accepted on May 21. She even gave me what is supposed to be my license plate number.
So I went down to the local DMV with that information. Of course it was over an hour wait just to get to the information window. They looked the plate up and stated that DMV actually mailed the plates out on May 21. It normally takes 2 weeks or more to get to the owner. It hasn't been 2 weeks yet.
The problem is, we're supposed to leave this Sunday on our 70 day trip. Plates are not here yet. Temp tag expires July 10.
At this point rather than cancelling the trip, I'm going to give my neighbor our mailbox key and some money, and ask her to mail us the plate to whatever RV Park or other place that accepts mail, that we're near. We aren't scheduled to cross over into Alberta until June 14.
If we still don't have plates, I'm going to just store the trailer and take the family to visit my wife's relatives in Alberta as planned. We can just stay with family or preferably, a hotel. Then we'll cross back down across the border, pickup the trailer, and drive west from the storage facility in Montana, and wing it as we go west.
When we get to Bellingham, we'll store the trailer there and head on up to Vancouver, B.C. to stay with my in-laws. Then we'll just come back down, pick up the trailer and continue our trip as planned.
Hopefully as we get our plates some time during the trip. I'm hoping that so long as we're in the USA, even with expired temp registration, the worst I'll get is a ticket.
