Where did I say Michigan temporary tags are "illegal"? What I said is whatever rules may apply in any given US state won't necessarily apply when one crosses the border into Canada where our provincial rules may be different. If your truck, car, trailer is not displaying a plate with a valid sticker chances are pretty good you're going to get pulled over. The point is, why chance it? ... it only makes sense to get the vehicle properly registered and plated before entering another country, in this case a US citizen visiting Canada.
