This odor thing is interesting. Yeah, nobody wants a rig that is foul with pet odor or some other obnoxious thing but they all have some kind of smell. I believe that we key onto smells that are similar to what we are used to and any that are not really stand out.
There are those, too, that have had a bad experience or are sensitive to some air problems. It seems like those folks can't abide any odor, even if it isn't deleterious to their health.
FWIW, I had a customer that I did some work for that was unable to work at her job because of exposure to "sick building syndrome". She stated that there were materials used in the building that caused her discomfort. I painted a room in her house with latex paint and she stated that she couldn't walk into the room for two weeks. That is way beyond any off-gassing or curing of the acrylic polymer in the paint. It may have covered up the smell that she was used to, though.
