A big part of it is that we didn't like ABQ and didn't want to end up getting stuck there. It will take time to find a new rig and we did not want to spend that time in ABQ. We wanted out of ABQ ASAP. I don't want to start a flame war, so I will keep my snarky comments about the place to myself.
There are literally dozen upon dozen upon dozens of vehicle auctions in Vegas; we're hoping to find something good for cheap. I got the last truck we had at auction. It was a *really good* truck. It was worth about 10k before I did a bunch of custom work to it and made it worth about 22k. And the upgrades only cost me 5k. I only paid $4600 for the truck originally at auction. (Retail is for suckers.)
We also have a lot of connections here in vegas. We left here about 10 years ago, but we lived here for almost 10 years and a lot of the people we knew are still here. Last, but not least, if we can't get manage to get back on the road the economy in vegas is doing pretty well right now and there is lots of work to be had. A lot of the work does not necessarily pay all that well. But, unlike a lot of places in the country right now it is both easy to find a place to live and a job. For example: Boise is banging right now and there are jobs out the wazoo. So many that all the people showing up for work have bought all the houses, rented all the apartments and filled all the hotels. Trust me, having a job w/o a place to stay blows chunks. So vegas it is.
