Well, I wasn't looking to do the install myself. I was just spit-balling to see if there was a market for such a thing. I was hoping that b/c it was just a cab/chassis that there would not be a lot of interest in it and I could get it for cheap then do something with it.
We rented a mini-van and the wife drove us to vegas.
I can finally turn my head about 3-5 degrees in every direction now, sleep through most of the night w/o the pain waking me constantly and I only need 1 vicoden a day now.
I had high hopes for the clark county municipal auction this weekend. I got our last truck at auction and it was a *great* truck.
But it seems that clark county just dumps their trash at auction. I spent the last week weeding through more than 4 dozen trucks on line. I got it down to 10 to check out at the preview today. They were all trash.
I have severe allergies to cigarettes. So we are staying in a weekly that cost $470 a week b/c non-smoking weeklies in vegas are few and far between. But, we just found one to move in to tomorrow that is only $250 a week; so we'll end up saving almost $900 a month.
We've been renting cars and riding cabs and blowing money like crazy on it. We're thinking of getting one of the trash cars at the clark county auction. Even if it costs 1k and only lasts 10-15 days we'll still be breaking even compared to what we are spending on cabs and car rentals.
We're still fighting with progressive over the value of the trailer. They say it is only worth $2300. Even though it was in top notch shape when we bought it, you can't buy the exact same one for less than $6500 west of the rockies and NADA says that even in crappy shape the low end retail is $4200. And they won't even discuss the settlement on the personal property until after we settle on the trailer. So at this point I have no idea what we're going to get out of the trailer and property.
We got 22k out of the settlement on the truck. And the wife has an income of $2500 a month until Jan. If we are still here then I should be healed enough by then to work and the wife is quite capable.
But, the longer we are here the more we are eating in to money to get back on to the road.
Non-auction trucks that will do what we need are running at least 15k and most are a lot more.
If I can find something good I can get it for half that price or even much, much less at auction.
On the upside there are dozens and dozens and dozens of vehicle auctions in vegas. If we get a trash car at the muni auction to run around town then we'll be able to go to them w/o blowing so much cash on cabs and car rentals.
We're kind of stuck, but not like super hurting. We're just on the cusp of being at the point where we can afford to get back on the road right away instead of having to spend time working and saving again in vegas. It took us 10 years to save up last time. We'd really like to be back on the road before Jan, actually before thanksgiving.
If I can find a truck that won't break the bank there are TT's and 5r's all over the place for less than 5k. But, a truck that costs 15k is probably going to need 3k worth of work. Plus taxes, title, maybe dock, $1500 for a 5r hitch, maybe an airbag leveling system just depending, etc. So even looking 5k and less for a trailer I need a base price on the truck to be about 5-7k tops. And the only place I know of to get good trucks that can tow 10k at those prices is at auction. Unless of course they turn out to be like the CC muni where almost every single thing for sale was trash.
Any suggestions?
