when I discovered that Maryland required special licensing for over 26,000 lbs. I asked my dealer if they warned new purchasers of DPs about this, and the answer was no.

I think you will find the laws on doubles, etc. are restrictions for use of the roads in a state and apply to all regardless of where they are from. It's sort of the same as say a speed limit like the 55 in Ca for towing.
