When it came to go full time RV'ing, I went thru that whole sticker shock too.
Looked at fifth wheels and thought that would be the way to go until I walked thru the truck lot and saw that trucks where around $68,000 ! :E Thought, boy I sure have been out of the marketplace a long time! IMHO no truck is worth 60 grand.
So I looked at MH's. Well after I sold my house to full time I felt a "sense of entitlement" for all those years I worked and with a 'lot' if cash on my hands I put money down on new high end DP for them to start prep for delivery in a couple of days...........
got home and started thinking what if I don't like full timing, how long will I be out there full timing?, AND OMG the depreciation on that mega monster thing! I RAN back to the dealership and thankfully got my money back.
Long story short. Bought and paid 'cash' for a real nice used MH. Found a super deal on a used toad and hit the road.
I thank god I made that decision. That rig set up gave me thousands and thousands of repair free RV'ing. :C
NO monthly payments of any kind. If I break down I don't have to worry how I'm going to pay for the repair AND pay the monthly payments, cause your warranty is going to run out way before that long long loan many take out on them!
Which I have met many fellow RV'ers on the road with that same dilemma. Thankful that would never be me.
