Be Perpared to Pay if you want to Play

Just went to the Credit Union today to see about a loan for a used and possibly a new 5th wheel. Well, well, well, what a eye opener! If I get a 60-month loan for $38,000 on a used unit at 4.01% the payments would be approximately $700.00 to $800.00 per month.

How about a new 5th wheel I asked? 60-month loan for $55,000 would be approximately $1,100.00 per month.

Don't stop there! Now I need a 3500 one ton to tow this 5th wheel. For a $65,000.00 loan in the 2% range, I am looking a payment of 60 months for $1,000.00 plus.

Well now; If I want to go new I could be paying well over $2,200 per month. Don't you just Love It?

Do you have barn to store it in? $$$$$$$$$$$

Also, the Credit Union said it is a clever idea to get a loan or loans before retirement because if your income drops, you just might not qualify for the amount you requested.

Just got the house paid off this February and away we go again!

So; you all new comers to the RV Land of Parricide better plan early.

I think I am going to sit down now and have the first hard drink I had in over 38 years.
  • Live within your means. Buy what you can comfortably afford for cash.

I bought a $6000 used 5er for cash, which I still have 14 yrs later. It has had most major components replaced/repaired/remodeled or upgraded by me. It suits my wife and I perfectly for how we use it; 3-4 trips a year for 2-3 weeks duration for 2-3000 miles.

I also bought a used F-250 Powerstroke for $5000 cash when I bought the 5er. My wife surprised me at X-mas in 2008 with a new Silverado 2500 Duramax. That was bought with cash.

Buying on credit may feel good when the neighbors oooo and awwww as you bring it home, BUT you will feel good longer by not paying interest for the next 5 years.

    Living debt free is good.
  • I have always advocated for a good used Class A or a good used DP for less money.
