Before a trip should I turn off the water of my house?

I turn off the main valve of the water supply of my house but some tell me to add antifreeze in sinks and toilets to prevent roaches from coming up the pipes if the pipes dry up. Is this a good idea?

I do not believe bugs can come up your DRAIN pipes that easy . You did not say how long you would be gone . What will happen in warm climates if your "P" traps are not full is that you will get sewer gas coming out of drains , it will take several months for this to happen .
