Before a trip should I turn off the water of my house?

I turn off the main valve of the water supply of my house but some tell me to add antifreeze in sinks and toilets to prevent roaches from coming up the pipes if the pipes dry up. Is this a good idea?

We shut our well pump off on every trip. If there is a leak, like from washing machine hose, etc, then our pump runs non stop....EXPENSIVE to fix the pump after it burns up...just as any water leak would be.

We have it on our pre-trip checklist to do.
