Before a trip should I turn off the water of my house?

I turn off the main valve of the water supply of my house but some tell me to add antifreeze in sinks and toilets to prevent roaches from coming up the pipes if the pipes dry up. Is this a good idea?

Why not just shut off the main water valve coming in the house, one valve instead of two for the washing machine and one for each toilet?
