blank tank deodorizer: when to add?

OK so we finished camping, I dumped at the campground, and we plan to go camp again in about a week.

Do I add the blue deodorizer chemical to blank tank NOW (with a few gallons of water) or do I wait until we are beginning our next camp and add it when we get there?

Thanks!

  • I'm with Bob. You don't need to spend your hard earned $$ on these so-call "needed" chemicals. They are NOT needed. Simply use lots of water when draining, and add several gallons after cleaning.

As others have mentioned, when getting ready to travel, put a couple of gallons in the tank and add some laundry detergent (I use liquid Oxy Clean). The rocking motion of the trailer while traveling will slosh around the soapy water and clean the inside of the tank.

You don't need the blue stuff at all.

  • In my 40+ years of RVing I have never had or smelled the need to use anything but water. If you are gettin an odor there is a venting or seal issue. Install a good flushing kit. Flush and save your money and the envirnment

    That's what I do.

  • Always leave a few gallons of water in the black tank, and water to cover the toilet seal. You shouldn't get odor in the RV unless the tank vent is blocked or you run the vent fan while flushing.
  • Wait until the next trip.

But as an added note, always leave an inch or two of water in the bowl at all times.
  • I would first wait and see if you even need it. We haven't needed it in our current rig at all - but needed to use it all the time in our old camper.
