The sad thing about this is how fast folks here condemned the seller as a thief and scammer. Says a lot about what we have come to now days.
It's not sad. It's just a statistical probability that it's very likely now days to get ripped. You are right that it is what we have come to. In the old days I could also ride my bicycle 5 miles through the Detroit suburbs to buy go cart parts from someone with a classified add on the Detroit news. Now days you risk getting you brains blown out if someone knows you are carrying cash. It's too bad, but it is what it is. I basically dont trust anyone. Show me first. Business is business and I always make sure it happens in a way that I'm 100 % guaranteed that I'm not getting ripped off.
