I think what he is referring to is called berneling where a bearing develops flat spots. This happened a lot back in the 70 when cars were shipped on trains. I don't believe it is much of a problem today. I'm a retired truck tech and I haven't seen it in a long time. Now cheap bearing may still have problems.

If it was still happening I would replacing my bearings quite frequently along with thousands of other RV owners here in the great white north. Up here our trailers sit for 7-8 months out of the year.
