Unless your daily driver is wholly incapable of towing anything at all, I'd recommend using that for a tug and starting out with a decent popup or an EXTREMELY lightweight standy-uppy trailer. For an example of the latter, I presently tow a small fiberglass trailer with a 2,000 pound tow-limited Kia. Works great for up to four sleepers, especially if two are small like your kids are. 
Save your money for something "bigger" later on. Meanwhile, spend a lot of time looking forums like this over so you'll develop a decent idea of what you'll be looking for/up against.
