Cable

How long of a chunk of coax do you folks carry? Be our first time camping with cable tv. Big excitement!
  • For typical RV park hookups, RG-59 is fine. If the hookup needs to be really long, as in 50' or more, or the coax might also be used for a satellite dish, then RG-6 is a better choice.
  • At one someone mentioned using a certain rv type coax for better reception. Anyone know what that is?

I always carry a short type F cable, a splitter, and two 25-foot type F cables.

This allows me to connect the short top connector to the TV source on the camp ground pedestal, then connect one of the 25-foot cables to the CABLE INPUT connector on the trailer, and the other 25-foot cable to lay under the trailer and be available to plug into a portable TV sitting on a small table under the awning when we want to sit outside and watch some TV.

I always always have a couple of barrels type F barrels in the tool box to make a 50-foot cable out of the two 25-foot cables if needed.

    Always have PLAN Bs...

  • I carry a 10'. 2 25's and 1 50'. It serves me well but I use a satellite dish as well.
  • I carry 175 feet: 100 foot, 50 foot, and 25 foot. A lot of our camping places (especially state parks) are thickly wooded with no opening for portable dish near to the unit. For cable hookup, 25 foot usually does the job.
  • I have found it handy to also carry a small wire brush to clean off the park's connector.
  • 25 ft should more than cover the distance from the RVs cable connection to the campgrounds cable box. If you have outgoing RV cable connections, you may want another roll to cover the distance to the picnic table for a portable TV.
  • Cable connections are often not well maintained in RV parks. Sometimes the one at your site is kaput, and you need to go to the adjacent unoccupied site. Easier than changing sites.
    So I carry 2 25 footers and a connector.
  • I carry one 10' and two 25' cables. I've only needed more than one on a few occasions, and all three only when visiting a friend. A single 25' cable should cover the majority of RV parks.
